ORTHODOX WEDDING DOCUMENTS
- Passport copies of both parties
- Birth Certificates. Both parties are obliged to provide a full birth certificate with printed names of their parents. Shorter versions will not be accepted.
- Certificate of Non-Impediment for both parties. This document confirms that you have not been married and that you are free to get married. The document can be issued at your local Registrar’s office no more than 3 months before your wedding.
- Apostille stamp. Any foreign legal documents which are to be used in Greece must be officially legalized with the Hague Convention Apostille. An apostille is a stamp, certifying that these documents are original and legal.
- If the Bride or Groom follow a different Christian denomination, an orthodox wedding ceremony may be performed, but more acts are required.
- Divorce Certificate. If either party has been divorced, please provide a certified copy of the Decree Absolute.
- Official Documentation for change of name if any

CATHOLIC WEDDING DOCUMENTS
- Passport Copies for both parties
- Birth Certificates. Both parties are obliged to provide a full birth certificate with printed names of their parents.
- Baptism Certificates of both parties
- If one or both parties have been previous marrird, they need to present a Divorce Certificate or a certified copy of the Decree Absolute from the appropriate Civil and Church Authorities bearing an Apostile stamp.
- Confirmation certificate. This document proves that there are no impediments for your wedding, must be obtained from the parish priest who baptized you, and must be dated within 3 months of your wedding ceremony.
- Freedom to marry certificate.You must obtain in writing your bishop’s permission to have your Catholic wedding Ceremony out of your Parish.
- Certificate stating that you have completed the “Pre-Cana”.
MIXED RELIGIOUS WEDDING DOCUMENTS
- Between a Christian Orthodox & a Catholic
Although a Religious wedding between a Cristian Orthodox and a Catholic is allowed, the non-orthodox party, bride or groom, must present a certificate of Christian Baptism and an official statement that the children from that marriage will be baptized Orthodox. - Between a Christian Orthodox & a non-baptized party.
It is not possible to have a Religious wedding between a Christian Orthodox and a non-baptized party. The Greek Orthodox Church only performs wedding ceremonies if both parties are baptized Christian.
CIVIL WEDDING DOCUMENTS
- Passport Copies of both parties
- Passport copies of 2 witnesses
- Full Birth certificate of the Bride and Groom with printed names of their parents, appropriately certified by Apostile stamp. This stamp refers to the legalization and validity of your documents for international use.
- Certificate of non-impediment to marriage from the municipality, county office, or Town Hall where you are registered, appropriately certified by Apostile stamp. This document certifies that there is no impediment to the upcoming marriage.
- If one or both parties has been previous married, a Divorce Certificate is required, or alternatively a copy of the Decree Absolute from Civil Authorities certified by Apostile stamp.
- Official Documentation for change of name if any
